The greatest investment I’ve made in my tech career?
It’s probably not what you think:
Attending a meditation retreat.
I couldn’t name all the benefits here but just a few:
– Increased self-awareness
– Stronger sense of gratitude for everything
– Learning how to face adversity with compassion
– Stronger authentic relationships with family, friends and coworkers
– More productivity at work
And that was in 2019. These are life long benefits that pay dividends year after year.
The next most valuable investment was working with a therapist. Biggest takeaway: I didn’t have to hold all the weight on my shoulders alone.
This is a reminder that mental health is just as important if not MORE than physical health.
They’re not separate. The brain is part of the body after all.
I used to have a hard time asking for support. In hindsight, part of me wishes I’d done it sooner.
Having someone in my corner as a life-optimizing coach has been a game-changer for me.
